Riding club has new saddle for program

The Winton Woods Riding Center has a specially-adapted riding saddle to be used in the Special Riders Program.

The saddle was made possible by a grant from the Rotary Club of Cincinnati and was created by Gray's Custom Saddlery in Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas. The new saddle will be used during spring lessons on Monday's at 6:15 p.m. and Saturday's at 10:15 a.m.

The custom saddle will provide students in the Special Riders Program with the many benefits of equine interactions during riding lessons. Previously, riders with certain disabilities had to be held up and led by riding center staff, reducing the riders' freedom to interact. The custom made saddle will now enable riders to be fully supported on top of a horse and allow freedom of their arms to steer the horse. There are a number of students in the program who are anxiously waiting to use the specially adapted riding saddle!

To see how the saddle functions and for more information about the Special Riders Program and riding lessons at the Winton Woods Riding Center, call Riding Center Manager Dee Anderson at 513-931-3057. ext. 132.
